ADVOCACY

PSSAM plays a vital role in informing Maryland’s public policy process. In addition to deep subject matter expertise on education, Superintendents have a broad understanding of what helps families thrive.

With public schools at the heart of community life, PSSAM’s members are uniquely positioned to provide members of the General Assembly and the Governor’s administration with the information needed to make better policy that works for all Maryland children.

2023 General Assembly Session

The Maryland General Assembly will reconvene on January 11th, 2023 for its 445th Session. Throughout the 90-day period, PSSAM leadership and staff will provide written and oral testimony on behalf of the organization to the Maryland Senate and House of Delegates as they conduct hearings on various bills pertaining to education. PSSAM’s testimony will reflect our mission and chosen legislative priorities for the upcoming year.

While PSSAM does not publish formal legislative positions, we advocate on various issues surrounding education, including school construction, cybersecurity, student health, transportation, athletics, and other matters in a manner that best supports a diverse community of students, educational staff, and local education agencies.

You can access PSSAM’s legislative testimony in two ways:

1. Visit our News section: Each bill receives a separate news post, providing a brief overview of PSSAM’s testimony and a link to the full written document. Use the tags to hone in on a category of bills (ex. Athletics & Extracurricular Activities) or enter the bill name or number in the search bar.

2. Type the bill name or number directly in the main search bar at the top of this page. (i.e "HB 199" or "Truancy Reduction Act of 2023")
